Just out of Palmwag is a community run lodge that over looks a deep ravine, called Grootberg Lodge. It is quite an experience getting to the lodge, as you need to get driven by 4X4 from the parking lot to the lodge. This road is extremely step and you will need the local expertise to navigate this road on the edge of a ravine. Once there the view is jaw dropping! This is a wonderful location to start your search for the elusive desert elephant.

To find a vagabond such as the desert elephant requires expertise and the community led conservancy does whatever they can to ensure you get the best possible opportunity to chase down these ever moving Goliath's of the Namibian desert.

If you are intending of traveling from the Skeleton Coast to Etosha National Park stopping to find the desert elephant is well worth it. If you are someone that wants to contribute to a local community and make a difference drop into Grootberg Lodge as part of your travels into Namibia.
